As part of LIFE VitiCaSe, the project that stands out as a key initiative in Italy and Europe with the goal of encouraging farmers to adopt strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon sequestration, a white paper, edited by CREA, dedicated to sustainable practices in the vineyard was presented at Vinitaly on April 16, 2024. The paper delves into various aspects of regenerative viticulture, which is essential today to respond to the climate emergency.
Regenerative viticulture represents an innovative and sustainable approach that focuses on improving soil health while increasing the carbon sequestration capacity of vineyards. This method also stands out for its emphasis on biodiversity, improved water cycle and ecosystem enrichment, key elements in strengthening soil health and increasing Earth's resilience to climate change.
Regenerative viticulture treats soil as a living system, rich in a vast network of microbial life, interacting and communicating, forming symbiotic associations with plant roots for nutrient exchange.
