The conference, “The Contribution of the LIFE Program to the Environmental and Climate Priorities of the CAP 2023/2027,” highlighted opportunities for integration and development of synergies through sharing best practices and complementary use of resources.
The report published suPianetaPSR (link below), talks about the integration between the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023-2027 and the LIFE 2021-2027 Program to promote environmental and climate sustainability. Through the event held in Rome on June 11, 2024, synergies between LIFE projects and the CAP were discussed, with a focus on the issues of pollinators and carbon farming. During the event, projects that have developed innovative practices to support environmental sustainability in the agricultural sector were presented, including LIFE VitiCaSe thanks to the intervention of CREA, a partner in the project (in photo, a moment of the presentation by researcher Silvia Vanino). The importance of sharing good practices and developing synergies to address environmental challenges more effectively was emphasized.

We quote an excerpt:
With the proposed Regulation establishing a certification framework for carbon removals, the European Union recognizes the central role of Carbon Farming as an effective tool in combating climate change, both through increased carbon removals in the LULUCF sector and through its ability to stimulate emission reductions in all other sectors.
This reduction in emissions is twice as great in companies that purchase carbon credits because most international and European standards require that companies before purchasing credits go through a process of calculating and reducing farm emissions.
The sustainable forestry and agricultural management interventions envisioned by Carbon Farming in addition to being financed by carbon markets are also possible thanks to incentives from the CAP. In fact, the 2023-2027 programming period includes more results-based performance monitoring supported by a set of indicators closely linked to the overall environmental and climate objectives of individual national strategic plans.
