A pioneering example of carbon farming in the agricultural sector is the LIFE VitiCaSe project, co-financed by the European Union. This project, which involves several Italian wineries such as Castello di Albola, Ruffino and San Felice Wine Estates, aims to develop a model for removing CO2 through sustainable vineyard management.

In collaboration with institutions such as CREA Agricoltura e Ambiente (CREA-AA) and CREA Politiche e Bioeconomia (CREA-PB), Image Line and Carbon Credits Consulting, Unione Provinciale Agricoltori di Siena and EZ Lab France, LIFE VitiCaSe aims to improve the organic carbon content in vineyard soils, while increasing the resilience of crops. One of the most interesting aspects of the project is the certification of the practices adopted, which will lead to the generation of carbon credits tradable in the voluntary carbon market, offering a replicable model for other agricultural companies.
