Regenerating the earth, a webinar for World Soil Day

Published on 2025-12-05

Today, December 5th, marks World Soil Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013. It is a day to focus attention on a little-known but vital resource for life: soil.

To mark the occasion, Image Line organised a webinar dedicated to the topic of soil and agronomic practices aimed at protecting and improving its health, involving researchers working on this issue. The webinar was aimed specifically at agricultural schools and was very well attended, with over 300 students connected from various regions.

The webinar, moderated by Tommaso Cinquemani, journalist at AgroNotizie, also featured Roberta Farina, senior researcher at CREA and member of the LIFE VitiCaSe project team, who shared our project's experience in adopting sustainable vineyard management practices with the aim of improving soil carbon content.

Monica Guizzardi, head of the Technical Office at Apo Conerpo, emphasised in her speech how proper soil management is also essential for the well-being of crop roots, particularly those of trees, citing examples tested in the LIFE Carbon Farming (with the Catholic University of Piacenza) and Horizon Climate Farm Demo and Climate Farm Advisors projects.

The importance of scientific research and the accurate communication of results were the main focus of the presentation by Sergio Saia, associate professor at the University of Pisa, who coordinates the European SHARInG-MeD project and the Agro-SALUTE living lab, founded thanks to the SUS-SOIL project.
