At the 23rd GiESCO Conference (International Group of Experts for Vitivinicultural Systems for Co-Operation), held under the patronage of the OIV, Enrico Battiston – Head of Viticulture at the International Organisation of Vine and Wine – presented the six scientific priorities of the new OIV Strategic Plan 2025–2029.
The Strategic Plan reaffirms the OIV’s role as the global reference for the vine and wine sector, with a strong focus on resilience, sustainability, and innovation in response to climate change and evolving market demands.
LIFE VitiCaSe and the OIV Strategic Plan: A Shared Vision
The LIFE VitiCaSe project is fully aligned with several key priorities of the new OIV Strategic Plan, particularly in the following areas:
1. Promoting resilient and sustainable viticulture
LIFE VitiCaSe tests innovative agronomic practices to enhance soil and vineyard resilience to climate stress, in line with the OIV’s goal to develop technologies and approaches to address drought, heavy rainfall, and other extreme events.
2. Coordinating sustainability practices
The project promotes an integrated approach to carbon management in vineyard soils, contributing to OIV efforts to share knowledge on biodiversity, water use, soil health and emissions reduction.
3. Innovation in production processes
Through digital monitoring tools and predictive models, VitiCaSe supports more efficient resource management and environmental impact assessment, in line with the OIV’s priority to adapt production to environmental and market challenges.
The OIV Strategic Plan provides an international framework that strengthens the value of field trials in LIFE VitiCaSe’s pilot vineyards. A shared goal: a more sustainable, innovative and climate-resilient European viticulture.
