Carbon credits for agriculture

Published on 2024-10-16

What is “carbon farming?”

🔎 Literally “carbon farming,” it encompasses a set of agricultural practices designed to increase CO2 sequestration in the form of organic carbon in the soil. Those who manage a farm, through the use of techniques such as improved crop residue management or the use of cover crops, can generate certified carbon credits.
🙋🏻‍♀️ Why?
The adoption of these practices can play an important role in making agricultural systems more sustainable, without compromising the economies of those who do business in agriculture. (...)
Implementing a carbon farming project represents a promising opportunity that requires systematic and scientific planning, as well as the adoption of rigorous certification processes that ensure the effectiveness of the practices in sequestering carbon and the verifiability and marketability of the carbon credits generated.
